India's Operation Sindhu has successfully evacuated 1,428 nationals from Iran amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, with 311 more citizens flown out from Mashhad on Sunday.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been coordinating multiple evacuation flights from key locations including Mashhad, Yerevan, and Ashgabat. The latest special chartered flight landed in Delhi at 4:30 pm, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing operation.

"India evacuated 311 more citizens from Mashhad on Sunday. The special flight landed in Delhi. This brought the total evacuees to 1,428 under Operation Sindhu," the MEA confirmed.

The operation, launched last week, aims to ensure the safe return of Indian nationals amid the deteriorating security situation. India has also extended its evacuation efforts to nationals of Sri Lanka and Nepal stranded in Iran, reflecting a broader regional humanitarian commitment.

"India has pledged to evacuate its nationals and those of Sri Lanka stranded in Iran amid ongoing conflict with Israel," a government statement said.

Sri Lanka and Nepal have expressed gratitude for India's assistance. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba thanked External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on social media for facilitating the evacuation of Nepali nationals.

The MEA successfully negotiated with Tehran to open Iranian airspace, enabling smoother evacuation routes through the northeastern city of Mashhad.

"Delhi managed to persuade Tehran to open Iranian airspace for the evacuation of around 1,000 Indians via the north-eastern town of Mashhad," a diplomatic source revealed.

Operation Sindhu continues as India prioritizes the safety of its citizens and regional partners amid the volatile geopolitical environment.
