The Border Security Force (BSF) has reported pushing back 557 illegal Bangladeshi entrants in early 2025, continuing a multi-year trend of intercepting thousands attempting to cross into India illegally.
According to BSF officials,
2,406 people were repelled in 2023, followed by
2,425 in 2024, with the 2025 figure standing at 557 as of May. This reflects sustained vigilance along the eastern and north-eastern borders.
The state-wise data highlights West Bengal as the most affected region, with a total of
2,688 illegal entry attempts over the three years. Mizoram follows with
1,679 pushbacks, though numbers there have declined from
1,084 in 2023 to
519 in 2024 and
76 in early 2025.
This ongoing enforcement aligns with government efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, aiming to secure the borders and manage migration challenges.
"At a time when the government is aggressively identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the BSF has revealed that it has, for three consecutive years, apprehended and repelled over 5,000 people belonging to the neighbouring country," a BSF official stated.
The data underscores the persistent pressure on border security forces and the need for continued vigilance and strategic measures to address illegal crossings.
As the year progresses, monitoring these trends will be crucial to shaping border management policies and bilateral cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
