Goa is advancing its technology ecosystem by launching a Centre of Excellence focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, announced Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the Goa Open Innovation Challenge 2025 6 Market Access Expo.

The initiative aims to develop advanced skills, encourage research, and promote collaboration between industry and educational institutes, particularly in AI and machine learning sectors. This move is part of a broader plan that includes setting up a Global Capability Centre.

Currently, Goa hosts 635 startups recognised by the Centres Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, with 281 certified under the states IT promotion cell. Financial assistance totaling Rs 3.9 crore has been disbursed to 147 startups, reflecting the states commitment to nurturing innovation.

The government supports startups through various schemes, including Rs 10 lakh startup assistance, Rs 15,000 salary support, and incubation opportunities, designed to boost local entrepreneurship and technology development.

This Centre of Excellence is expected to act as a catalyst for skill enhancement and foster a collaborative environment between academia and industry, positioning Goa as a growing hub for AI innovation and startup growth.
