Niagara-on-the-Lake cricket match delights with record crowd - free ice cream and community spirit

Last Sunday, Memorial Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake was alive with excitement as the Caribbean Workers Outreach Project (CWOP) hosted a cricket match that attracted a record crowd.

The event benefited from perfect weather and growing community interest, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with cheering fans. The Niagara Clippers emerged victorious after an intense game, much to the delight of attendees.

Adding to the festive spirit, colourful tents offered free Baskin-Robbins ice cream and refreshments provided by Gateway Church, the Farmworker Hub, and Phil's Independent grocery store.

Coach Elijah “Prophet” Steele, a seasoned leader with 26 wins in the annual match, has been coaching for nearly 30 years, except for a COVID-19 interruption. His expertise has been instrumental in building strong teams and fostering community engagement.

This event not only celebrated sport but also highlighted the community’s unity and generosity, making it a memorable day for all involved.
