Dinesh Chandimal has publicly honored Angelo Mathews as one of Sri Lanka’s most exceptional cricket players.
Chandimal expressed on Instagram, “There is no doubt that, Angie, you are one of the rarest and most valuable players Sri Lankan cricket has ever produced. I consider it a privilege and a blessing to have played with such a talented player for such a long time. So, I have learnt a lot from you in my cricket career, both as a captain and as a player too.”

Mathews’ cricketing credentials are impressive, with an aggregate of 8,167 runs in 118 Test matches, ranking him third behind legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena in Sri Lanka’s all-time Test run scorers.
He has also contributed with the ball, taking 33 wickets, showcasing his all-round capabilities.

Beyond individual statistics, Mathews has been a significant leader for Sri Lanka, serving as the country’s third most successful Test captain. Between 2013 and 2017, he led the team in 34 matches, securing 13 victories.
