India vs Pakistan clash set for October 5: women's ODI World Cup heats up in Colombo

The highly anticipated women's ODI World Cup clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 5 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, a neutral venue selected under the ICC's hybrid model.

This model was introduced after India declined to travel to Pakistan for ICC events, prompting the addition of Colombo as a neutral ground. Pakistan will play all their matches at this venue, including games against Bangladesh, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

"India's marquee women's ODI World Cup match against Pakistan will be held at the neutral venue of R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 5," the ICC announced.

India is hosting the tournament for the first time since 2013, with eight teams competing in a round-robin format. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals, intensifying the competition.

Pakistan's schedule at Colombo includes matches on October 2 against Bangladesh, October 8 versus Australia, October 15 against England, October 18 facing New Zealand, October 21 versus South Africa, and October 24 against Sri Lanka.

"Colombo had to be added as a neutral venue according to the 'Hybrid Model' that was accepted for the men's Champions Trophy and beyond earlier this year after India refrained from travelling to Pakistan for the ICC event," highlighting the geopolitical considerations shaping the tournament.

This setup ensures the tournament proceeds smoothly while maintaining competitive integrity, as the women's ODI World Cup heats up in Colombo with a marquee India-Pakistan showdown.
