Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket captain and current BCCI president, has expressed openness to taking on a coaching role with the Indian men's cricket team in the future. Having worn multiple hats post-retirement, including commentator and team director at Delhi Capitals, Ganguly remains engaged with Indian cricket's development.
On the current coaching setup, Ganguly gave a measured endorsement of Gautam Gambhir, who took over as head coach earlier this year.
"Gautam (Gambhir) is doing a good job," Ganguly said.
"He started off a little slow, losing to Australia and New Zealand, but he picked up with the Champions Trophy."Ganguly also highlighted his significant administrative contribution to Indian cricket, particularly in promoting women's cricket.
"I got into different roles… but I think my biggest contribution was to promote women's cricket," he stated, underscoring his commitment to the sport's growth beyond the men's game.
Despite openness to coaching, Ganguly was unequivocal about his political stance. When asked about joining a political party ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, he firmly said,
"I am not interested."As Ganguly turns 50, his potential future involvement in coaching could bring valuable experience to Team India, complementing his ongoing influence in cricket administration and development.
