Fr Avin Carvalho champions physical education: Don Bosco’s turf shapes holistic learning

Fr Avin Carvalho is a passionate advocate for holistic education at Don Bosco Oratory, where physical education is given equal importance as academics.

Since its inauguration in 2023, the Oratory's football turf and two futsal pitches have become a vibrant hub, attracting 100 to 150 sports enthusiasts daily from 3 pm to 10 pm.

The turf stands out due to its A-grade FIFA-approved synthetic turf imported from the US, complemented by cooperative staff, well-maintained playing conditions, and an organized slot booking system.

Professional coaches run structured training programs aimed at nurturing the next generation of athletes. The Oratory invests Rs 8 to Rs 10 lakh annually to maintain these top-tier facilities.

The venue has hosted prestigious tournaments such as the Don Bosco Futsal League, the All-India Inter YMCA Futsal Championship, the Jubilee Cup, and the Campeones De Futsal, drawing young teams from across the country.

Fr Avin Carvalho emphasizes, "We prioritise physical education as much as we prioritise book learning. We don't want our students to excel only in education, but also want them to do well in physical activities and sports."
