Zelenskyy emphasized that the focus of their talks will be on anti-ballistic defense and strategic cooperation with the United States. He stated, “Our number one priority is anti-ballistic defense and strategic cooperation with America. Peace needs to be brought closer.” This comes amid ongoing concerns regarding Russia's support for Iran in the context of the war in Ukraine, with Zelenskyy warning that “Evil always seeks ways to make things worse and spread further.”3
Trump, however, has downplayed the significance of potential Russian assistance to Iran, asserting, “I don’t think they’ve been doing it, certainly not at a high level.” The meeting is also seen as a tribute to Graham, who recently passed away, and is expected to address sanctions against countries purchasing Russian oil and gas, including China and India.2
The U.S. has previously committed to providing Ukraine with a license to produce Patriot air defense systems, a long-standing request from Kyiv to bolster its defenses against Russian missile attacks.
