X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, faced a significant outage on May 24, 2025, impacting approximately 27,850 users across the United States and India.

The outage began around 1 A.M IST on May 23, with users reporting difficulties accessing the platform. According to Downdetector.com, 25,699 users in the US and over 2,000 users in India experienced issues, peaking at 6:18 p.m. IST.

The majority of complaints, about 68%, were related to login failures, while 24% reported problems with the app and 8% with the website.

In India, while most features remained functional, some users encountered the error message: “Something isn’t right. Please try again later” when attempting to log in.

X acknowledged the problem, attributing it to a data center outage and confirmed that their team was actively working to resolve the issue.

This marks the second outage for the platform this year, following a 30-minute downtime on March 10, which similarly affected mobile app and web access.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges for X in maintaining platform stability amid growing user demands and infrastructure complexities.

“X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today. We are experiencing a data center outage and the team is actively working to remediate the issue.”
