Gujarat startups aim to supply 1% of global 130nm chip demand from India

One such startup, IndieSemic, focuses on developing globally competitive, locally designed hardware targeting sectors like smart cities, industrial automation, automotive, and surveillance. This diversification highlights the broad application of semiconductor technology in India's evolving economy.

Samir Shroff, founder of Pronesis Technologies, exemplifies the talent returning to India, bringing over a decade of Silicon Valley experience to contribute to the domestic semiconductor push.

Experts also emphasize the importance of international collaborations, noting that many Gujarat startups benefit from exposure to global semiconductor hubs such as China and Taiwan, which strengthens the local ecosystem.

“India has so much demand that even if several such facilities come up, they will all find business,” industry insiders say, underscoring the robust market potential.

With ongoing plant constructions and a supportive policy environment, Gujarat is positioning itself as a significant contributor to India's semiconductor ambitions, aiming to reduce import dependence and foster indigenous innovation.
