Deezer's new AI music detector, available for free, is designed to scan playlists across 20 major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, to identify
AI-generated tracks. This technology arises from growing concerns in the music industry about the impact of synthetic music on artist royalties and streaming dynamics.
With data revealing that the
music platform receives nearly 75,000 AI-generated tracks daily, accounting for over
44% of new music uploads, Deezer aims to safeguard the integrity of its service. The streaming service also noted that
up to 85% of streams from AI-generated music were flagged as fraudulent, which forms part of its rationale to act against AI content.
“By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming,” the company stated. Subsequently, they are considering updates to supplier policies or potential content removal to mitigate the growing presence of AI in music.
A recent
Deezer and Ipsos survey revealed that 80% of respondents requested clear labeling for AI-generated music on streaming platforms. The survey highlighted a significant consumer desire for transparency, with a staggering
97% of respondents unable to differentiate between AI-generated and human-made music in a blind test. Deezer's tool hopes to address these concerns and improve user awareness regarding AI's role in music production.
