AMD unveils Helios server launch: MI400 chips power next-gen AI hardware

The Helios server, expected next year, will leverage AMD's enhanced ROCm software platform, which has already accelerated AI startup Cohere's software adaptation from weeks to days. This improvement underscores AMD's commitment to providing agile, customer-focused solutions.

"Changing Cohere's software to run on AMD chips was a process that previously took weeks and now happens in only 'days,' Gomez said.

AMD's strategy includes acquiring server maker ZT Systems to strengthen its hardware capabilities, signaling a comprehensive approach to AI infrastructure.

"OpenAI has had significant influence on the design of the forthcoming MI450 series of AI chips," said Forrest Norrod, an executive vice president at AMD.

This collaboration highlights AMD's intent to tailor its AI chips to meet the demands of leading AI developers. The MI400 series will form the core of the Helios server, positioning AMD as a serious contender in next-generation AI hardware.
