Anthropic co-founder Dario Clark warns that the rapid evolution of AI could potentially render humans obsolete in coding roles, with more than
80% of production code now being generated by AI model Claude.
"The evidence suggests that the human role is narrowing at each step in the development of AI," Clark stated.
As AI technologies advance, concerns are rising that humans may become mere bottlenecks as less code is produced by them than AI can process.
Clark expressed concerns about losing control as AI develops superior successors, potentially leading to economic inequality and unpredictability:
“There are potentially great benefits. There are also risks.” The efficiency of AI tools is unprecedented, with Anthropic engineers reportedly shipping eight times as much code quarterly than in previous years.
Clark noted that Claude's code quality may soon overtake that of humans, raising discussions on the need for new regulations.
Currently, the AI has not only fixed one-third of past production bugs but has also autonomously deployed over 800 fixes, significantly reducing error rates:
