Yulu, a pioneering micro-mobility company in India, is set to accelerate the country's sustainable transport revolution by doubling its electric vehicle (EV) fleet from
45,000 to 100,000 within the next financial year.
The company addresses critical last-mile connectivity challenges by deploying shared EVs in urban areas, enhancing commuter convenience and reducing carbon footprints. Naveen Dachuri, Co-Founder and CTO, highlights the importance of tailored expansion strategies, noting that while over
400 cities exhibit shared mobility needs, Yulu will focus direct operations in the top 10-15 cities and adopt a franchise model elsewhere to accommodate diverse urban behaviors.
A significant hurdle has been securing parking infrastructure without inflating operational costs. Yulu overcame this by partnering with government bodies such as
MMRDA in Mumbai and
DULT in Bengaluru, which provide parking near major transit hubs like metro stations and bus stops, facilitating seamless integration with public transport.
"Our biggest challenge was securing parking spots, as paying for them would have made our model unsustainable," Dachuri explained.
Yulu's approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also promotes shared mobility adoption, contributing to India's broader goals of reducing urban congestion and pollution.
With AWS backing their technology infrastructure, Yulu is positioned to scale efficiently while maintaining service quality and sustainability.
This expansion reflects a strategic blend of innovation, government collaboration, and market adaptation, positioning Yulu as a key player in India's micro-mobility future.
