Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the ASCEND J&K 2026 startup summit in Srinagar, emphasizing the need for a resilient entrepreneurial culture among the youth. The summit, described as the biggest of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir, aims to connect startups, innovators, and investors.124
In his inaugural address, CM Omar stated, “The slogan of this summit — ‘Where Mountains Meet Momentum’ — can be interpreted in two ways. Either the mountains are the end to momentum, acting as barriers, or they are challenges that we take upon ourselves to summit.” He encouraged young entrepreneurs to embrace innovation and learn from failures, asserting that “Every failure is a lesson and every lesson brings you closer to success.”6
The two-day event aims to foster a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Himalayan region, with initiatives including seed funding and key partnerships. CM Omar highlighted local innovations, such as a sensor-based device to prevent water pipes from freezing, showcasing the ingenuity of the region's youth.
He noted, “Small innovative ideas. Reiterating the government’s commitment, he urged the youth to present their ideas, stating, “This is exactly what ASCEND is meant for. It’s to tell these youngsters that no idea is a bad idea.”
