Ricky Ponting says India must play Arshdeep Singh in England Tests or face surprise

Australia legend Ricky Ponting has strongly advocated for India to include left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in their Test squad for the upcoming five-match series in England starting June 20.

"I would actually have him in their Test team at the start. He's very skilful," Ponting said, emphasizing Arshdeep's ability to exploit English conditions.

The 26-year-old, who recently received his maiden Test call-up, has impressed with his seam bowling and ability to generate bounce, standing close to six-foot-four. Ponting highlighted, "As we know in England the ball still swings when it is 30, 40 or 50 overs old," and Arshdeep's experience with the Dukes ball during his county cricket stint adds to his suitability.

"I think to have that point of difference, having a left-armer in your team, I think will be something that, if India don't do it, then it'll be a bit of a surprise to me," Ponting remarked, underscoring the strategic advantage of a left-arm pacer in English conditions.

The former Australia captain also praised the selectors for including Arshdeep alongside established pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, calling it a timely decision as Arshdeep is at the peak of his powers.
