Indian Test batsman KL Rahul will join the India A squad for the second warm-up match against the England Lions at Northampton on June 6, as part of preparations for the upcoming five-Test series in England.

Rahul, who has played 58 Test matches for India, decided to participate after his IPL team, Delhi Capitals, failed to qualify for the playoffs. He informed selectors of his availability, emphasizing his commitment to red-ball cricket.

"I love red ball cricket. I mean you can’t take that away from me or anyone who’s part of that Indian team," Rahul said in a recent interview with Sky Sports.

The India A warm-up matches against the England Lions are crucial for acclimatizing players to English conditions ahead of the main series. Rahul’s experience will be vital, as he has scored 807 runs in 18 Tests against England, including two centuries and five half-centuries, averaging 29.88.

His recent form includes 255 runs in five Tests in Australia at an average of 30.66, with two fifties, showcasing his ability to perform in challenging overseas conditions.

The warm-up game at Northampton follows the first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions at Canterbury, where younger players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel are also gaining experience.

Rahul’s participation signals India’s intent to field a strong, experienced batting lineup in England, aiming to build momentum and confidence before the high-stakes five-Test series.
