Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG) for NASA's Artemis IV lunar mission set for 2028. This high-tech interior garment features
ventilation tubes filled with cold water to ensure astronauts remain comfortable under extreme conditions.
The innovative design addresses the critical need for thermal regulation within the
Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit, with cold water circulating to absorb heat from astronauts' bodies. According to
Prada’s Chief Marketing Officer Lorenzo Bertelli, “Today, we are proud to present a new achievement born from the unique combination of Axiom Space’s pioneering expertise and Prada’s know-how in design, patternmaking, and advanced materials.”
The LCVG also integrates a ventilation system providing fresh oxygen to astronauts and recycling exhaled CO2. This garment is characterized by its
multi-layered approach to space wear, which includes a backup cooling system, enhancing safety for astronauts venturing into the harsh lunar environment.
Bertelli emphasized, “While aesthetically pleasing, this is a safety suit for these people.” The garment not only aims at comfort but also at aligning with the luxury fabric innovations that Prada has championed for over two decades. The resumption of lunar missions not only promotes scientific exploration but may also attract affluent consumers considering space tourism.
The introduction of the LCVG is a pivotal advancement as humanity prepares to explore the moon for the first time in over 50 years. The LCVG will accompany the AxEMU unit on its first journey to space in late 2027.
