The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has appointed Abhishek Banerjee to an anti-terror delegation following the withdrawal of MP Yusuf Pathan, who was reportedly pressured by the BJP.
Banerjee, TMC's national general secretary, emphasized the importance of party consultation in selecting representatives for such delegations.
“How can the Union government decide on the representative of Trinamool?” Banerjee questioned, highlighting the need for broader discussions before finalizing delegation members.
Following discussions between TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, Banerjee was nominated to represent the party in the multi-party delegation aimed at combating terrorism.
The TMC's decision comes amid accusations from the BJP that Banerjee's withdrawal was coerced, with BJP co-incharge Amit Malviya calling it “unfortunate.”
“When it comes to fighting terror and protecting national interest, TMC will stand shoulder to shoulder with the Union government,” Banerjee stated, reiterating the party's commitment to national security while asserting its right to choose its representatives.
The parliamentary outreach initiative includes 51 political leaders and aims to strengthen India's global stance against terrorism.
At a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Abhishek Banerjee’s inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table.
