Congress MP Shashi Tharoor led an all-party delegation to the United States, underscoring the shared commitment of India and the US to combat terrorism, particularly Pakistan-backed groups.

Speaking outside the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, Tharoor emphasized the need for global solidarity against terrorism and reaffirmed India's resolve to not remain silent in the face of terror attacks.

"India will not be sitting quietly against the forces of evil," he declared, highlighting the recent Operation Sindoor launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

Tharoor detailed the operation as a "very precise and calibrated strike on 9 specific known terrorist bases, headquarters and launchpads,"
He also pointed out that within an hour of the Pahalgam attack, the Resistance Front, a front organisation of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility. Lashkar-e-Taiba is designated as a terrorist group by both the US and the UN.

The delegation's visit aims to sensitize governments, legislators, think tanks, and media across five countries, including the US, about India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and to project a national consensus on combating terror.

Tharoor described the mission as one of peace and hope, seeking to remind the world that India stands for peace, democracy, and freedom, opposing hatred and terror.

This diplomatic outreach is part of a broader Indian effort involving seven delegations visiting 33 countries to build international cooperation against terrorism and deny safe havens and financing to terror groups.

The visit to the US is particularly significant given the longstanding strategic partnership and shared values between the two democracies in counterterrorism efforts.

Tharoor's remarks at the 9/11 Memorial symbolically linked the global fight against terrorism with the shared experiences of India and the US, reinforcing their united front against Pakistan-backed terror networks.

"We have demonstrated with this operation that we can do it with a degree of precision and with a degree of restraint that the world, we hope, will understand. We have a right to self-defence. We've exercised that right," he said.

The delegation's engagements include meetings with government officials, legislators, think tanks, and media to foster a comprehensive understanding of the terror threat and India's firm stance against it.

This visit underscores India's commitment to global peace and security through collective action against terrorism.
