Raghav Chadha, a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with six Rajya Sabha MPs, has officially left the party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Chadha, who has dedicated 15 years to AAP, expressed his disillusionment, stating that "the AAP that I nurtured with my blood... has deviated from its principles, values and core morals."
During a press conference, he confirmed that two-thirds of AAP's Rajya Sabha MPs are joining him in this move, with support from 10 AAP members in the Upper House. "As per the Constitution, two-thirds of the total MPs of a party can merge with another party," Chadha pointed out.
Other AAP members making this shift include Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Vikram Sahney, and Swati Maliwal.
This departure is considered a major setback for Arvind Kejriwal's leadership and the party's integrity in the political landscape. Chadha criticized the transformed direction of AAP, claiming, "Now this party does not work in the interest of the nation but for its personal benefits."
In his remarks, Harbhajan Singh echoed similar sentiments, raising concerns about the BJP's alleged manipulation of political loyalties, referring to their strategies as "Operation Lotus," accused of undermining Punjab's governance.
The reshuffling and reshaping of party loyalties are indicative of the often tumultuous nature of Indian politics, as ideological alignments continue to shift.
