The Congress party has strongly condemned the recent surge in attacks on Christian communities by Bajrang Dal activists across several Indian states.
Christian priests in Odisha have been violently assaulted, with one incident involving a large group breaking into a priest's residence, looting belongings, and attacking a 90-year-old priest.
"A large group broke open doors, brutally assaulted the priest, looted belongings, and even viciously attacked a 90-year-old priest," said Satheesan, highlighting the severity of the violence.
These attacks are not isolated, with similar incidents reported in Madhya Pradesh, Ahmedabad, and Chhattisgarh, indicating a disturbing pattern.
"This is not an isolated incident. Widespread attacks are occurring in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Ahmedabad, and Chhattisgarh," Satheesan added.
Reports suggest that the government has allegedly instructed looters to target all Christian institutions within a two-month timeframe, raising serious concerns about the safety of religious minorities.
"The govt has reportedly instructed looters to target all Christian institutions within two months," Satheesan said.
The attackers are linked to Bajrang Dal and other organizations associated with the Sangh Parivar, groups known for their Hindu nationalist ideology.
"Priests are being attacked by Bajrang Dal activists and organizations connected to Sangh Parivar," the reports confirmed.
In response, the Congress party has vowed to defend Christians and called for urgent measures to protect religious freedom and prevent further violence.
This wave of attacks has alarmed human rights advocates and religious leaders, who warn that such violence threatens India's secular fabric and communal harmony.
