Colombia has reversed its earlier condolence statement for deaths in Pakistan during India's Operation Sindoor, now expressing strong support for India's anti-terrorism efforts following a visit by an Indian delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

The delegation, part of a broader Indian government mission to inform 33 countries about Pakistan's role in terrorism, met with Colombian officials including Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio and former President Cesar Gaviria. After detailed briefings, Colombia's government "fully understood India’s position" and withdrew its earlier statement.

Tharoor said, "We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism." He emphasized, "There is no equivalence between those who dispatch terrorism and those who defend against it."

The Liberal Party, Colombia’s largest political party, condemned Pakistan’s terror policy and pledged support for India’s fight against terrorism. Former President Gaviria stated, “Colombia has solidarity with India. We check any kind of terrorism, and under any circumstances, we will be on your side.”

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya highlighted the delegation’s briefing on the sequence of events from the Pahalgam terror attack to India’s calibrated response under Operation Sindoor. Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, credited the delegation’s detailed explanation for reversing Colombia’s stance.

This diplomatic pivot underscores India’s global outreach efforts to counter Pakistan’s narrative and gain international support against terrorism.
