Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has taken significant steps to streamline the filming process in the city by signing an executive order that mandates monthly meetings between city departments and industry stakeholders. This initiative aims to address ongoing filming issues and enhance collaboration between the city and the film industry.
The executive order stipulates that no more than one city staffer will be required on film shoots, which is expected to simplify the logistics for filmmakers. Additionally, it opens up iconic locations such as the
Griffith Observatory and the
Central Public Library for filming, while also reducing filming fees at these sites.
At a press conference at
SAG-AFTRA, Bass highlighted the importance of Hollywood in supporting
middle-class jobs and
small businesses, stating that her executive order 'will make it far easier to film in Los Angeles movies, television shows and commercials.' This move is seen as a vital step in revitalizing the local economy and ensuring that Los Angeles remains a premier destination for film production.
The executive order also requires police and fire departments to collaborate with the mayor’s office and local film office
FilmLA to resolve any ongoing issues that productions may face, fostering a more efficient and supportive environment for filmmakers.
