South Africa and Namibia will face off in their inaugural international cricket match on October 11, a historic one-off T20I that will also mark the official opening of Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
Previously, Namibia hosted internationals at the Wanderers, a club ground, but this new stadium represents a major milestone for Cricket Namibia.
"This truly is a memorable occasion," said Johann Muller, Cricket Namibia CEO.
The Namibia Cricket Ground is set to be a key venue for upcoming global tournaments, including the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men's World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. Namibia will co-host these events alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa, expressed pride in supporting the stadium's opening, highlighting its significance as a host venue for the 2027 World Cup.
"As a fellow African cricketing nation and the host of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, we are proud to support the official opening of this new stadium," Moseki said.
Despite their geographic proximity, South Africa and Namibia have never played an international match against each other before, making this fixture a landmark moment in African cricket relations.
The new stadium and this historic match underscore the growth of cricket on the continent and Namibia’s rising profile in international cricket.
