Macron to host PSG and lead victory parade after historic Champions League win

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their first-ever UEFA Champions League title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan at Munich's Allianz Arena, completing a historic treble for the club.

"It's a mix of joy, of all the emotions we've spent together. I've suffered but I've grown up with this team," said Marquinhos, PSG's veteran player.

Teenager Désiré Doué starred with two goals and an assist, while Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and 19-year-old substitute Senny Mayulu also scored.

"A glorious day for PSG! Bravo, we are all proud. Paris is the capital of Europe tonight," tweeted French President Emmanuel Macron, who will host the team and lead a victory parade on the Champs-Élysées.

However, celebrations quickly turned violent. Across Paris and other cities, clashes with police erupted, resulting in two deaths, including a 17-year-old stabbed in Dax, and 559 arrests. The French Interior Ministry reported 192 injuries and 692 fires, including 264 cars torched.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the violence, stating, "True PSG fans are getting excited about their team’s magnificent performance. Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement."

Despite the unrest, thousands of fans gathered on the Champs-Élysées, celebrating with flares, fireworks, and singing. PSG midfielder Joao Neves was seen cutting a piece of the goal net as a souvenir.

PSG’s coach Luis Enrique, who secured his second treble after a 2015 victory, was praised for transforming the team with young talent rather than relying on expensive superstars.

The victory marks PSG as only the second French club to win the European Cup since 1993, ending years of anticipation for their supporters.

The club’s historic triumph and the subsequent celebrations underscore both the passion for football in France and the challenges of managing large-scale public events.
