Axel Hellmann admits Eintracht Frankfurt likely to lose Hugo Ekitike this summer

Axel Hellmann, former CEO of Eintracht Frankfurt, has admitted that the club is likely to lose star forward Hugo Ekitike this summer amid growing interest from top Premier League clubs.

The 22-year-old French striker has been a revelation since joining Frankfurt last February, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances this season. His impressive form has attracted attention from clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, with the latter reportedly eyeing a swift transfer.

"I would love to have him at Frankfurt for another ten years, if possible. But we are realistic," Hellmann told The Fussball Channel, acknowledging the challenge of retaining the young talent.

Manchester United is said to be in advanced talks, preparing a serious bid, while Chelsea reportedly values Ekitike at around 100 million (83.9 million), with a negotiable payment structure. Frankfurt, although keen to keep Ekitike until 2029, are open to offers in the 80-90 million range.

Ekitike's rise has been rapid; after a slow start in his career, he has now become one of Europe's most sought-after young strikers, with 19 goals in 44 league games overall and a strong record for France's under-21 team.

Reflecting on his journey, Ekitike said in December 2024, "Everything moves fast in football. You're there (hand up) then you're there (hand down) very quickly."

With his contract running until 2029, Frankfurt faces a tough decision balancing financial gain and sporting ambition as the summer transfer window approaches.
