The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) has officially cleared former Indian spinner R Ashwin and his team, Dindigul Dragons, of ball tampering allegations following a complaint by Madurai Panthers.

Madurai Panthers accused the Dragons of using chemically treated towels to tamper with the ball during their June 14 match, claiming the ball became heavier and produced a metallic sound when struck. Panthers lodged the complaint after the game, but TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan noted the complaint was filed beyond the 24-hour window stipulated by league rules.

"Though they have to lodge any complaints within 24 hours of the game, we have still accepted it and have asked them to furnish proof of their allegations," Kannan said.

After reviewing the matter, TNPL found no evidence supporting the ball tampering claims. The league has invited Madurai Panthers to submit any "credible and verifiable evidence" by June 17, including video, photographic, or testimonial proof, to request an independent inquiry.

The TNPL also warned that "baseless or defamatory allegations" could result in disciplinary action under the TNCA Code of Conduct and Operational Rules, urging all teams to uphold professionalism and the spirit of the game.

Dindigul Dragons, the defending champions, had comfortably defeated Madurai Panthers in Salem, with Ashwin and Shivam Singh leading the chase to secure their second win in TNPL 2025.

This incident highlights the league's commitment to fair play and due process, balancing prompt investigation with the need for concrete evidence before taking action.
