Shubman Gill is set to lead India in the forthcoming five-Test series against England, emphasizing a clear separation between his captaincy and batting responsibilities.

Gill's approach to leadership involves "compartmentalising batting and captaining; so when he's batting he just wants to be a batter, and then he will try and work on his captaincy and try and separate the two roles," according to his IPL teammate Jos Buttler.

Buttler, who has played alongside Gill, described him as "quite passionate" and predicted that his captaincy style will be "a mix of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma," two of India's most influential cricket leaders.

Highlighting the significance of the role, Buttler remarked that captaining India in Test cricket is akin to being one of the "third or fourth-most influential people" in the country, underscoring the pressure and responsibility Gill faces.

"Quite passionate. He'll be a mix of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma," Buttler said.

"He talked about compartmentalising batting and captaining; so when he's batting he just wants to be a batter, and then he will try and work on his captaincy and try and separate the two roles," he added.

Gill's strategy to distinctly manage his dual roles aims to maintain his batting focus while gradually developing his leadership skills, a critical balance for India's success in the Test series.
