BCCI dedicates IPL 2025 closing ceremony in Ahmedabad to Indian armed forces' heroism

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the closing ceremony of IPL 2025, scheduled for June 3 in Ahmedabad, will be dedicated to honoring the Indian armed forces for their heroic efforts during Operation Sindoor.

The IPL final was postponed from May 25 due to heightened India-Pakistan border tensions, with the league suspended for a week. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the closing ceremony will mirror the grandeur of the IPL opening ceremony held in Kolkata.

"We have extended an invitation to all Indian Armed Forces chiefs, top-ranked officers, and soldiers for the IPL final in Ahmedabad to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor," Saikia told PTI.

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a terrorist attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, by Pakistan-backed militants. The operation led to a brief military confrontation before India agreed to a ceasefire at Pakistan's request.

"As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces and honor our heroes. While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country," Saikia added.

The BCCI salutes the "bravery, courage, and selfless service" of the armed forces, recognizing their role in protecting and inspiring the nation during this critical period.

This gesture highlights the deep respect and gratitude the cricketing body holds for the military, intertwining national pride with the sport's grand finale.

The IPL 2025 closing ceremony will thus serve as a platform to celebrate not only cricket but also the valor of India's defenders.
