Elon Musk has officially ended his role as a White House advisor heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), redirecting his focus to Tesla and SpaceX.

During his tenure, Musk initially promised to cut $2 trillion in government spending annually, but this figure was later revised down to $1 trillion and then to $150 billion by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.

Despite these ambitious targets, overall government spending has not decreased; in fact, under the Trump administration, spending increased by $190 billion compared to the previous year.

Musk's DOGE initiative did lead to significant workforce reductions, with over 60,000 government employees laid off, and cuts to programs such as school nutrition and local food grants, which saw a reduction of around $1 billion in Department of Agriculture funding.

Musk expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for the opportunity, stating, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending."

Trump praised Musk's efforts and suggested that further undisclosed waste reductions had been identified.

Despite the mixed results, Musk pledged to remain involved in government efficiency efforts even after leaving Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella commented on unrelated layoffs, clarifying that recent job cuts were due to reorganization rather than performance issues.

Musk's departure marks the end of a whirlwind period of promises and actions aimed at government spending reform, with a refocused commitment to his private ventures.
