Yemen's government says Houthi attack on al-Makha kills at least four civilians; armed forces report one port guard dead, two sailors missing, eight wounded

Yemen's internationally recognized government reported that the Houthi missile attack on the Red Sea port of al-Makha resulted in at least four civilian deaths and eight injuries. The attack, which occurred on Friday, involved six ballistic missiles targeting civilian infrastructure and maritime installations.¹⁴

The Yemeni armed forces stated that the assault also claimed the life of one port security guard and left two sailors missing. Initial reports indicated that several fishing boats were set ablaze during the strike, highlighting the attack's impact on local economic activities.²

This escalation in hostilities comes amid rising tensions in the region, particularly due to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, in which the Houthis have become a significant player. The Houthis claimed their attack was aimed at Saudi-backed forces and described the targeted sites as military buildups and warships.

An unnamed military official from Yemen's government suggested that the death toll could be higher, estimating at least eight fatalities including security personnel. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing reports of increased military activity from both sides.

The Houthis have also been active in targeting Saudi facilities, including a recent drone strike on an Aramco refinery in Jazan, indicating a broader strategy of retaliation against Saudi military actions in Yemen.
