Victims step forward: FBI urges reporting of $225M crypto fraud linked to DOJ seizure

The Department of Justice has initiated a civil forfeiture action targeting over $225.3 million in cryptocurrency suspected to be linked to extensive cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes.

Using advanced blockchain analysis and investigative methods, authorities traced the digital assets to theft and laundering activities associated with so-called "cryptocurrency confidence scams."

The FBI is actively encouraging victims of these cyber-enabled crimes to come forward. Individuals who believe they have been defrauded are urged to file complaints with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.

"If you believe you may be a victim of one of the scams alleged in the government’s complaint, add the code ‘BT06182025’ in the narrative of your complaint," officials advised.

Victims who have previously reported related incidents should also reference their prior complaints to assist ongoing investigations.

This coordinated effort highlights the growing challenge law enforcement faces in combating sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud and the importance of public cooperation in recovering stolen assets and prosecuting offenders.

"Law enforcement used blockchain analysis and other investigative techniques to determine that the cryptocurrency is connected to the theft and laundering of funds from victims," the DOJ stated.

The case is filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, marking a significant step in addressing the rising tide of digital asset crimes.

Authorities emphasize that reporting fraud not only aids in asset recovery but also helps prevent further victimization in the rapidly evolving crypto space.
