- Steam has introduced a new email gifting option, allowing users to send games directly over email without needing the recipient's Steam account.
- Recipients can claim games via a link sent to their email, even if their email address isn't associated with their Steam account, although they must be in the same country as the sender.
- Wishlist categories have also been added, allowing users to organize their games into custom categories and generate shareable links.
Valve's latest update to Steam introduces a significant email gifting feature, allowing users to send games directly to recipients without a Steam account. Previously, gifting required knowledge of the recipient's account, but now a simple email link suffices.12
This update also includes a wishlist categorization system, enabling users to organize their games into custom categories. Users can name these categories freely and add games from their store page or existing wishlist. Additionally, notifications for wishlist items going on sale can be tailored to specific categories, enhancing the shopping experience.
The email gifting feature comes with some limitations: senders must be in the same country as the recipient, and if the game is not accepted within 30 days, it will be automatically refunded. For international gifting, users must be friends on Steam, but Valve will calculate the game's cost in the recipient's region at checkout.
This update aims to streamline the gifting process and improve user engagement on the platform, making it easier for users to share games and manage their gaming interests.
“You can now generate a shareable link to your wishlist or a specific category,” Valve stated, highlighting the new features designed to enhance user interaction.
With these changes, Valve continues to adapt Steam to meet the evolving needs of its user base, ensuring a more accessible and organized gaming experience.
“The email gifting feature requires sender and recipient to be in the same country, with unclaimed gifts automatically refunded after 30 days. Separately, The Coalition will reveal Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer before the end of July, featuring classic 4v4 Versus and a 12-player Horde Siege mode.”
