According to a report by ProPublica, Kremlev covered hundreds of thousands of dollars for the event, including renting a private island and organizing a fireworks show. Curtis emphasized the seriousness of the situation, saying, "You'll hear more from me later on. This is a big deal."
In contrast, Donald Trump defended the payments, asserting, "It's totally allowed, and a lot of people have parties and all, but it's totally allowed." He added that Trump Jr. reimbursed Kremlev, stating, "A person that he knows, I guess a friend of his, gave him a wedding party. That's very common."
Curtis is not alone in his criticism; Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina also voiced concerns, although he is not seeking reelection. Curtis, however, will remain in office until 2030, allowing him to continue addressing this issue.6
