Two senior US senators have issued a stark warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing a new military offensive in Ukraine, accusing him of using peace talks merely as a stalling tactic.

The proposed legislation would impose 500% tariffs on countries continuing to buy Russian oil, gas, uranium, and other exports, specifically targeting major buyers like China and India, which account for roughly 70% of Russia's energy trade.

Senator Blumenthal described the sanctions as "bone-crushing" and said they would place Russia's economy "on a trade island."

The senators warned that failure to act now risks deeper US involvement in the conflict. Blumenthal cautioned that if Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, NATO treaty obligations could one day compel American troops into battle.
