United Airlines is set to launch its largest international expansion in history, introducing 10 new cities and 13 new routes for summer 2027. This includes the first-ever nonstop flights from the U.S. to Slovenia and Luxembourg, with Newark gaining eight new European destinations.¹²³

The expansion reflects United's strategy to cater to changing traveler preferences, as Patrick Quayle, chief network planner, stated, "We've opened up more of the world to our customers... to explore places that they may not have previously considered." The new routes will connect travelers to destinations that are currently unreachable nonstop from the U.S., with seven of the ten cities being unique to United.

Among the new routes, Newark will see flights to Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille, and Terceira. The airline's new A321XLR aircraft will facilitate these routes, allowing for smaller, more efficient operations. Quayle emphasized that this expansion is part of a broader trend, as United has added 49 new destinations since 2021, and is the only U.S. airline to fly nonstop to 32 of those locations.⁷

United's commitment to expanding its international footprint is evident, as it aims to be a "one-stop shop" for travelers of all types, from backpackers to business travelers.
