Ukrainian drones launched an assault on Russia's Primorsk oil terminal, one of the nation's largest oil export hubs, on Sunday, significantly impacting operational capabilities for Russian forces. The port, located over 620 miles from Ukraine, handles
one million barrels of oil daily, thus making it a strategic target.
The attack ignited a blaze at the terminal, but
Governor Alexander Drozdenko assured that
no oil spills resulted from the strike. The independent outlet Astra reported that critical infrastructure, including a
Pantsir air defense system, was also struck.
Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the operation destroyed various military assets, including a Karakurt missile ship and tankers from Russia's shadow fleet, which illicitly transport oil to evade sanctions. Zelenskyy stated,
“These tankers were actively used to transport oil. Now they won't.” Officials noted a significant escalation in Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure, attributing these operations to a strategy aimed at undermining the Russian economy and disrupting fuel supplies,
