UK government approves Peartree Hill and Dean Moor solar farms, promising clean power for over 200,000 homes; energy minister emphasizes drive for energy independence.

The UK government has granted planning permission for two significant solar projects, Peartree Hill and Dean Moor, totaling 470MW.¹

These projects are expected to generate enough clean electricity to power over 200,000 homes, marking a crucial step towards energy independence.²⁴

Energy Minister Michael Shanks stated, “We are driving further and faster for clean homegrown power that we control to protect the British people and bring down bills for good.”

The Peartree Hill Solar Farm, located in East Riding of Yorkshire, will provide 320MW, while the Dean Moor Solar Farm in Cumbria will contribute 150MW.³⁵⁶

Daniel Kiremidjian, head of UK and Nordics at ib vogt GmbH, expressed his delight at the approval, highlighting the project's significance for local communities and stakeholders.

The projects are part of the UK’s broader strategy to enhance energy security and reduce reliance on imported energy sources.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has emphasized the importance of these developments in achieving the UK’s clean energy goals.⁷
