- OLIX secures £232M in Series B funding.
- The funding supports delivery of OLIX’s DX-1 chip—designed for the stage at which an AI model reasons and generates its output—to first customers by the second half of 2027, plus build-out of the wider custom silicon platform and its manufacturing and supply chain commitments.
OLIX, a UK-based AI chip startup founded in 2024, has successfully raised £232 million in its Series B funding round, achieving a valuation of £2.45 billion. The funding will support the development of its DX-1 chip, which is tailored for the reasoning and output generation stages of AI models, with delivery expected to commence by the second half of 2027.12
The startup is focused on creating next-generation AI chips that promise to be faster, cheaper, and more energy-efficient than existing options. These chips, known as inference chips, are designed to specialize in various aspects of an AI model's processing capabilities.
OLIX's funding round attracted significant investors, including Arm, Hudson River Trading, and Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix, alongside the UK Government's Sovereign AI venture fund. AI Minister Kanishka Narayan emphasized the importance of supporting chip technology, stating, “The future of AI will be built on chips that power models. Countries that build chips will build leverage.”
In addition to the funding, OLIX has appointed Matt Briers, former CFO of Wise, as its new Chief Financial Officer, and Professor Nick McKeown, a key figure in modern networking, to its board of directors. This leadership expansion aims to bolster OLIX's position in the competitive AI landscape.
“OLIX's DX-1 chip, designed for the stage at which an AI model reasons and generates output, is slated to reach first customers by the second half of 2027. The funding also backs the broader custom silicon platform and the manufacturing and supply chain commitments frontier inference hardware requires.”
