Typhoon Dolphin hits eastern China, forcing mass evacuations as heavy rain and floods persist; storm surge warnings in Tianjin and Henan raise flood response

Typhoon Dolphin has unleashed heavy rain across eastern China, prompting mass evacuations and emergency responses. In Beijing, authorities activated a second-highest flood alert as forecasts predict over 100 mm of rain in six hours and up to 150 mm in 24 hours.¹

The city has mobilized over 23,000 emergency personnel and opened 77 elevated roads to facilitate emergency vehicle access. Meanwhile, in Tianjin, marine authorities warned of a storm surge expected to last until Sunday, with high tides potentially pushing water levels above warning thresholds.²

In Henan Province, the flood-control emergency response was raised to Level III in nine cities, with the provincial meteorological observatory upgrading its rainstorm alert to orange. Queshan County recorded the highest rainfall at 286.6 mm in 24 hours, and forecasters predict isolated areas could see between 250 mm and 350 mm of rain by Wednesday evening.³⁴⁵⁶

As the storm continues, authorities are taking measures to mitigate travel disruptions, including increasing subway capacity and temporarily opening bus lanes to all vehicles during peak hours.
