An Indian-flagged cargo vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank in the Red Sea after being struck by a projectile off Yemen's coast on August 4.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that all 13 Indian crew members were rescued by Yemeni forces.348
"All 13 Indian nationals have been rescued. Our Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Yemeni authorities for the safety and security of the crew," the MEA stated.
The vessel was attacked approximately 13 nautical miles south of the Houthi-held port city of Hodeidah, leading to its sinking.
"India strongly condemns this unprovoked attack on the defenseless mechanised sailing vessel," said Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
He emphasized that the safety of Indian seafarers is a priority and instructed immediate actions to ensure their security.
The MEA also expressed gratitude to Yemeni authorities for their assistance in the rescue operation, which involved the Yemeni National Resistance Force.
"The continuing incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the region are deeply worrisome," the MEA added, calling for an end to such targeting and for the restoration of free navigation in international waters.9
This incident occurs amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly following the Iran-backed Houthis' declaration of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, raising concerns over global energy supplies and trade routes.
