Taylor Farms has expanded its recall of iceberg lettuce to 27 states amid a Cyclospora outbreak linked to its products. The CDC has confirmed at least 1,645 cases of cyclospora infections, with 141 hospitalizations. The lettuce was distributed from June 29 to July 16, affecting states including Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.125
The company stated, "We are actively removing the implicated products" and has suspended distribution from Central Mexico. Walmart has also removed four bagged iceberg salad products as a precaution, despite no confirmed illnesses associated with them.3
The CDC's investigation revealed that Taco Bell customers fell ill after consuming contaminated shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms. The outbreak is considered regional, primarily affecting the Midwest, with Michigan reporting the highest number of cases. "Consumers who have purchased the recalled iceberg lettuce should discard it immediately and not consume it," Taylor Farms advised.46
The CDC noted that cases of cyclospora have surged, with nearly 7,000 confirmed or under investigation across 34 states since May 1. This outbreak is on track to be the largest on record in the U.S., with Taylor Farms previously linked to illness outbreaks in 2013 and 2024.
