Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) reported a remarkable 59% increase in sales for July, totaling 63,760 units, compared to 40,175 units in the same month last year. This surge is attributed to the sustained demand for SUVs and a significant rise in electric vehicle sales, which more than doubled to 15,217 units from 7,124 units a year earlier.1
The overall performance of India's auto sector was robust, with Hyundai Motor India achieving its highest-ever monthly sales of 75,360 units, marking a 25.4% year-on-year growth. Domestic sales rose by 23.3% to 54,210 units, while exports climbed 31.4% to 21,150 units, the highest in over 100 months. Similarly, Kia India reported a 27.4% increase in wholesale performance, with dispatches reaching 28,200 units. Mahindra & Mahindra also saw a 26% increase in total auto sales, totaling 103,860 units, while Nissan Motor India recorded a 218% surge in domestic wholesales to 4,518 units, driven by the launch of its new TEKTON SUV.34
The July sales performance indicates that demand for sport utility vehicles continues to drive growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market, while rising exports and strong electric vehicle sales are providing additional momentum for automakers.
