Tata Motors achieved the highest year-on-year growth among major carmakers in August 2026, with a 59% increase in sales, totaling 65,253 units compared to 41,001 units in August 2025. This growth reflects a 4.22% rise from July 2026's 62,611 units.1278
In contrast, Maruti Suzuki retained its position as India's largest carmaker, selling 1,76,971 units in August, marking a 34.8% year-on-year growth from 1,31,278 units in August 2025. However, this figure represents a 9.8% decline from July 2026's 1,96,203 units.34
Meanwhile, Mahindra reported a 50% year-on-year increase with 59,257 units sold, up from 39,399 units last year, although it saw a 1.32% decline from July's 60,048 units.56
Tata Motors also excelled in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, selling 16,549 EVs across markets, a 94% year-on-year increase from 8,540 units in August 2025. The Nexon EV and Punch EV were significant contributors to this growth, alongside the recently introduced electrified Sierra.
Overall, Tata Motors outsold Mahindra by nearly 6,000 units, finishing second behind Maruti Suzuki in the overall standings while achieving the highest year-on-year growth among the top six manufacturers.
