Synopsys, AMD, and Microsoft are revolutionizing chip design with new agentic AI workflows that significantly enhance efficiency. The collaboration introduces two innovative electronic design automation (EDA) workflows, which have shown a 40% reduction in cycle time during initial evaluations.12
These workflows, developed in partnership with Microsoft, are designed to streamline the chip design lifecycle, enabling engineers to tackle the increasing complexity of silicon development. “AI is reshaping engineering. Together with Microsoft and Synopsys, we're enabling a new generation of AI-assisted design workflows that augment human ingenuity with intelligent automation and optimization,” stated Alex Starr, AMD Corporate Fellow.6
The new workflows leverage large-scale reasoning, domain expertise, and cloud-scale compute to accelerate the creation of next-generation AI infrastructure silicon. Early evaluations indicate a 25–40% reduction in debug cycle time, translating to significant savings in engineering efforts and improved productivity. “As AI-powered systems and hyperscale computing push silicon complexity to unprecedented levels, engineering teams can no longer afford traditional tradeoffs between performance, quality, and development speed,” remarked Ravi Subramanian, Chief Product Management Officer, Synopsys.8
Microsoft's Discovery platform is also integral to this advancement, as Aseem Datar, CVP of Product Innovation for Microsoft Discovery and Quantum, noted, “We designed Microsoft Discovery to accelerate scientific and engineering innovation with AI, and chip design is an ideal application for Discovery as it addresses one of the most complex engineering challenges on the planet.”7
“The new agentic EDA workflows, available for evaluation on Microsoft Discovery, aim to enhance productivity by reducing debug cycle time by 25–40%. Aseem Datar, CVP at Microsoft, emphasized that chip design is a critical application for AI, addressing complex engineering challenges.”
