Three people have died and four others were injured in a shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday evening, according to the city fire department. The incident occurred near the Space Needle around 18:00 local time.
Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed that one suspect was taken into custody following the shooting, which left two victims dead at the scene and one later dying in the hospital. Among the injured are a two-year-old boy and a 56-year-old woman, with four of the injured reported in stable condition.23
The Seattle Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation and has urged the public to avoid the area. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson expressed his condolences on social media, stating, 'My prayers are with the families of the victims, and the responders as they work to keep people safe.' Similarly, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal shared her sympathies, saying, 'Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this senseless violence.'
In response to the tragedy, the US flag atop the Space Needle was lowered to half-mast, and local leaders have condemned the shooting as an 'act of horrific violence.'
