Shehzad Poonawalla has pressed the BJP to relieve him of his role as National Spokesperson, citing pressing emergency financial and personal circumstances. In a letter shared on X, he expressed gratitude for the party's initial refusal to accept his resignation, stating, “It was extremely touching and I am indeed grateful that the party refused to accept my resignation letter immediately and requested me to reconsider the decision.”14
However, after “long and hard contemplation,” he reaffirmed his decision to exit, indicating tensions with certain party members. He stated, “The events of the last few days, courtesy certain individuals about whom I have told you in great detail, have forced me to reinforce and stand by my earlier decision.”
Poonawalla, who joined the BJP after leaving Congress in 2017, emphasized that his departure from the party's organizational structure does not equate to a break with his political allegiance to Prime Minister Modi. He noted, “I am only leaving the Vyavastha, not the Vyakti or Vichar.”
Despite his resignation, he pledged to support the BJP's vision “wherever possible and in whatever format possible.” He expressed his “gratefulness, love, affection and highest regard” for Modi and other senior leaders, thanking the BJP for the opportunities it provided him over the past five years.
