Sequoia Capital's Shaun Maguire has spearheaded a significant $1 billion funding round for Valar Atomics, a nuclear startup focused on small modular reactors (SMRs). This funding is pivotal for Valar as it transitions from demonstrating its technology to mass production of its reactors.15

Valar Atomics, which recently confirmed the funding round, is now valued at $6 billion. The company also secured a $200 million credit facility from Erebor and other banks to bolster its financial position. Valar's founder and CEO, Isaiah Taylor, noted that the funding will enable the company to manufacture fleets of its SMRs, which are designed to be cheaper and faster to build than traditional reactors.34

The startup has made significant strides in its technology, having successfully demonstrated its Ward 250 reactor powering an Nvidia Blackwell system. Valar has also partnered with Nvidia to develop a waterless 30MW AI factory. The company claims that its reactors generate essential data to enhance the development of next-generation reactors, thereby accelerating production cycles.7

“It took two years to complete the NOVA core. It took seven months to take Ward 250 critical. With each reactor built, the tick rate will become smaller until Valar is producing tens, then hundreds, then thousands of reactors per year,” the company stated, emphasizing the impact of this funding on its future milestones.9

Other investors in this round include Apandion Capital, Atreides Management, Conviction, Dream Ventures, HOF Capital, Point72 Ventures, Riot Ventures, Snowpoint Ventures, and Valor Equity Partners.
